James is a proud GATOR and graduated from the University of Florida Law School in 1985. While in Gainesville he lived "less than a mile" from the Swamp and went to most of the home football games while he was a student at Florida.
James graduated from the American University in Washington, D.C. in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in both International Studies and Economics. While James was a student at American University, he worked as a paralegal at the firm of Wald, Harkrader and Ross. Prominent clients of the Wald firm included the State of Alaska in the Alyska Pipeline case and Occidental Petroleum and Hooker Chemical in the Love Canal Case. It was during this time that James decided that he had a passion for the law and that he wanted to pursue a legal education.
After graduating from Law School, James practiced corporate and securities law. However, James became disillusioned with the corporate law and the corporate world and decided that he liked helping individual people more than he liked helping big corporations.
As a result, James went out on his own and "hung his shingle" in Washington, D.C.. From 1986 through 1989, James practiced law in Washington, D.C. His primary focus at this point was developing his trial and litigation skills. To gain trial experience quickly, James accepted appointments in criminal cases in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia. During this time, James had the opportunity to try many jury trials and develop his jury trial skills.
James sat for the California Bar Exam in February of 1990 and passed on his first attempt. James was admitted to the California Bar in July 1990. In 1990, James established his practice in Northern California. James enjoys helping individuals and small businesses solve their legal problems and challenges.
James loves "techie" stuff. He designed and set up the computer network for his office. He even laid all the CAT-6 cable. He picks his own routers and switches. He has written several computer programs designed to make the office more efficient.

His style reflects his personality. Instead of working in a fancy and intimidating high rise, James chooses to work in a small office that he shares with a Home Health Agency. His office is not pretentious. He likes to make his clients feel relaxed and at ease when coming to his office. If he is not appearing in court for the day, you will often find him in his office blue jeans or sometimes even shorts instead of a suit. His goal is to make the process of finding solutions as painless as possible.
